Problem
The modernisation works on the Acayucan – La Ventosa road include the widening of the crown from 7m to 12m, as well as the correction of curves and gradients to maintain operating speed. The new layout shifts the axis and zeros lines of the current road, which passes through numerous population centres, including Estación Sarabia at km 174+770, where space to accommodate the over-widths is limited.
Solution
The constructor together with the external supervision and the SICT residence analysed different alternatives for the required retaining works, and the one proposed by Maccaferri with a 4m high gabion gravity wall and internal staggering was chosen. The construction of a trapezoidal section channel was also considered in order to direct the discharges from 2 transversal drainage works towards the nearest natural watercourse.
